How to Get Rid of Old Electronics and TVs in Hampton Roads
Southside residents can drop electronics — TVs and monitors included — free at SPSA's e-waste sites, up to five items a day. Peninsula cities have their own options, like Newport News' permanent collection at its Recovery Operations Center.
Some drop-offs have limits on older tube (CRT) TVs, so check your city below.

Drop it off
- SPSA (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Franklin and Isle of Wight County)
- E-waste — monitors, TVs, computers, and most electronics — is accepted free, up to 5 items a day, at the Suffolk Regional Landfill, the Norfolk and Chesapeake transfer stations on set days, and Franklin on quarterly dates. Source
- Norfolk
- Norfolk residents take all e-waste to the Norfolk SPSA Transfer Station, free — Tuesdays and Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m., five items per visit, in a personal vehicle. Source
- Virginia Beach
- The city's Resource Recovery Center accepts electronics, including TVs and monitors — but not cathode-ray tube (CRT) electronics. Source
- Newport News
- The city runs a permanent residential electronics collection at the Recovery Operations Center. Source
- York County / Yorktown
- Non-working TVs can go to the county's Waste Management Center. TVs aren't accepted at the computer-recycling events. Source
- Gloucester County
- Household appliances and TVs can go to the county's convenience centers. Source
Donate it
- Newport News
- The city lists Goodwill locations at 12638 Jefferson Ave. and 11061 Warwick Blvd. for electronics. Source
- Williamsburg
- The city suggests donating computers to charities such as CHKD, DAV, Good Samaritan and Habitat for Humanity. Source
- York County
- The county asks that working TVs be donated. Source
